Just Praying that my Pants Stay up

As God continues to answer my prayers on a daily basis I had to blog about a very minor prayer request He answered today.  Of course it really could have been a huge distraction to His praise and worship!!!

In our second church service today as the choir finished it’s song I folded my music folder and started placing it on my choir chair to head down to sing with the praise team.   As I did my folder hit the top of my pants.  This pair of pants does not have a button above the zipper.  This pair of pants merely has two hooks that just slide to secure my britches.  Somehow my folder released the hooks from their secure placement and I felt a release at my waist line.  A feeling of paranoia set in as I became fearful that the zipper would now work its way down and my pants would fall while singing…ON STAGE…ON LIVESTREAM!!  Now that would not be glorifying to my Lord and Savior at all!!!   My prayer was “Dear Lord please keep my pants from falling down!”

My pants did  stay up Praise the Lord!!!  My youngest said the last song was so powerful today with the last chorus sung acapella. I told her I felt the same way in both services.  Such a beautiful sound of all those voices singing God’s praise!!  We raised the roof to God’s glory and… my pants stayed raised!!

Philippians 4:6 “Do not be anxious about anything, but in everything, by prayer and petition, with thanksgiving, present your requests to God.”

My Purpose is to Love and Serve Others

Life gets so confusing.  Life feels like a continuous battle some days.  So often there are so many things being forced by others without seeming to even really have a choice.  With that being said God continues to remind me that I always have a choice.  That I can choose to love and to serve everyone in all circumstances.  No matter what seems unfair nothing is more unfair than what my Savior Jesus endured for my sin on that cross.  So I will press on and continue to focus on Jesus and loving and serving others.   This is why God gave me life.  My goal in life is for when my time ends on this earth is for others to say that if anyone truly believed in Jesus, followed him, and was a true Christian…Anita did and was…

1 Peter 3:15-18 “But in your hearts set apart Christ as Lord.  Always be prepared to give and answer to everyone who asks you to give the reason for the hope that you have.  But do this with gentleness and respect, keeping a clear conscience, so that those who speak maliciously against your good behavior in Christ may be ashamed of their slander.  It is better, if it is God’s will, to suffer for doing good than for doing evil.  For Christ died for sins once for all, the righteous for the unrighteous, to bring you to God.”

Mother

raindrops on roses
With this being Mother’s Day I have been reflecting all day on the mother God chose to give me.  He could have not planned my life at all or planned for me to be placed in a horrific situation.  Instead He created me and placed me with the most loving and Godly parents a person could wish for.  There are not enough words to describe the humbling gratitude I feel when I think of my parents and my mother specifically on Mother’s Day.  My mother’s own mother passed when my mother was just shy of turning 12 years old.  It was an unexpected death and my mother didn’t get to say “I love you” one last time or good bye.  I truly can’t imagine what she went through yet God got her through without an ounce of anger and bitterness.  There have been many situations in life that I have witnessed her “survive”.  She always continues on with the joy of Jesus radiating from her often as bright as sunbeams.  The unexpected loss of my father being the most recent trial she has endured with tremendous strength, grace, and joy.   Having been a wife for 44 years and a wife of a pastor for the majority of those years her world changed dramatically within just a few moments.   As a retired school teacher she now was left without the “jobs” of wife and pastor’s wife as well. Instead of folding up into a lonely ball of despair I watched this amazing women continue on with her life of selflessness.  She dove right into the lives of my sister’s and my children.  She began volunteering at the elementary school my sister works in investing her time and life into the lives of other children.  She began volunteering at a special ministry of our church that provides counseling and benevolence help.  She partnered up with me in our churches Awana program and helps 3rd and 4th grade girls memorize scripture from God’s Word.  My mother is truly the most selfless person I know.  When it came to clothing or her needs she always made sure my sister and I had what we needed before ever buying for herself.  In fact she still has some of my old sweaters from when I was in high school and still wears them.  Happy to take the “left overs”.

My mother is a true living example of motherhood and how God intended motherhood to be.  Her life has taught me so much more than any schooling of any kind ever could.  She is the most beautiful, loving, God fearing, strong woman that I know.  I will be eternally grateful for my sweet little momma.  What God didn’t give her in stature he gave her in a giant sized heart and faith!!

Proverbs 31:28-30 “Her children arise and call her blessed; her husband also, and he praises her. ‘many women do noble things, but you surpass them all.’ Charm is deceptive, and beauty is fleeting; but a woman who fears the Lord is to be praised.”

Awesome Kids

This evening my youngest and I were driving down our lane and most of the neighbors were on their lawn mowers neatly manicuring their lawns.  This sparked  a meaningful conversation.  She started with the statement “All of our neighbors have yards like a country club.”  My husband and I do our best with the 5 acres we have to manage, but we feel accomplished if we are able to keep our weeds mowed once a week.  I reminded her that most of our neighbors have already raised their children so they have more time and maybe more finances to invest into their lawns.  Then I told her how I would like a perfect magazine cover worthy yard, but what good would that really do?  Grass and weeds will keep growing.  Yard work is never ending like laundry.  It is never really done.  What our priority is right now is raising our two awesome kids.  She asked “We are awesome?”   “The most awesomeness!!”  I replied.  I went on to explain that the yard work will always be there, but that the time we have to invest in helping them to grow into amazing adults is very short.    These sweet conversations are priceless as is the time with our awesome kids!!!

Luke 12:34 “For where your treasure is there your heart will be also.”

Proverbs 27:23-24 “Be sure you know the condition of your flocks, give careful attention to your herds; for riches do not endure forever, and a crown is not secure for all generations.”    Of course there is a bit different context here, but can be applied to investing into our children instead of material things.   We can’t take our yard to heaven, but we can lead our children to Jesus who is the only way to heaven.

Why are we so Sad?

Our family is currently blessed with having an exchange student from Germany.  We have been looking forward to and preparing for her arrival for several months now.  It has been amazing how helpful everyone in the Lucas household has become since she arrived.  Everyone has been cleaning up after themselves and helping without being asked.  Makes me want to have a house guest all the time actually.  What I am truly seeing play out within my own family is the second command that Jesus gave us.  “Love your neighbor as yourself” Mark 12:31

Another amazing thing is how joyful everyone has been.  There has been no bickering amongst my daughters and we all seem more happy and relaxed.  We are all focused on the comfort and happiness of our guest.

It is amazing how when we love God with all our heart, soul, and strength (Mark12:30) and focus on the needs of others instead of ourselves we become truly joyful.

This has been on my heart since she arrived and our special speaker at our church confirmed this even further today.

Why are we so sad in our country and around the entire world?   Where is our focus most often?  If it is on ourselves we are sad, depressed, and angry.

It is as simple as that.  The more we focus on God, His love, and loving Him with everything we have the more He empowers us to love others sacrificially.   The more we give of ourselves to others expecting nothing in return the greater freedom, peace, and joy we feel.  If you are sad and depressed focus on others.  Find a ministry, a person to show love to without expecting anything for yourself.  Love your family and anyone in your life’s path without any expectations.

The two greatest commands Jesus gave have proven themselves true in my life over and over.  My heart is full as I see what is happening in my family right now.

Mark 10:42-45 “Jesus called them together and said, “You know that those who are regarded as rulers of the Gentiles lord it over them, and their high officials exercise authority over them.  Not so with you.  Instead, whoever wants to become great among you must be your servant,  and whoever wants to be first must be slave of all.  For even the Son of Man did not come to be served, but to serve, and to give his life as a ransom for many.”

Jesus taught and showed us how to put God and others first.  The world teaches us to put ourselves first.  God’s way is to put others needs before our own and to put all our trust in Him.  The worlds way leads to sadness God’s way leads to joy!!

Being a Goalie is About Sacrificing for the Save

soccer player

One thing I love about parenthood and watching my children grow is watching them work hard at something.  For this mom’s success scale they do not have to be the best, the top ranking, the prettiest, and the most awarded.  When I see them putting all their heart and energy into their task at hand that is what makes them a success in my book.  When I see them being kind to others and putting a smile on another person’s face that is better than any award that can be obtained.

Our oldest has really deepened her love for the sport of soccer.  She likes all the positions in soccer including goalie.  Very few players are willing to be the goal keeper.  She has worked hard and really has been refining her skills as a keeper this year.

As I watched her play yesterday afternoon and saw the grass and mud stained skin of her knees my heart was warm with love for her.  She has been kicked in the face, has had balls flying at warped speed at her body, she has had a concussion, she gets turf fragments in her eyes, ears, and mouth when she dives for the ball, she gets burns on her skin when playing on turf…but she gives all that she has to make the saves…  the best way to win a game is to prevent the other team from scoring goals.

As we are celebrating Easter I am reminded of the one who made the ultimate sacrifice to save the entire world.  Our sinful nature completely separates us from God who created us and the relationship He planned and desires to have with us. The only cure for our sin is the sacrifice of innocent blood.  God provided that sacrifice by sending His one and only Son, God in the flesh, Emanuel (God with Us), JESUS, to this earth to die for our sins.  There has never been a human being that was purely innocent and sinless other than Jesus Christ.  There is also no one that claimed to be a god that has risen from the dead.  Jesus is the one and only who has proved exactly who He is by fulfilling every promise made.  Our souls and the eternal future of them is completely reliant on this one man, Jesus, and what he did.   He took all of our sin to that cross, actually becoming sin, and was completely separated from God the Father at that moment.  He died.  He rose again on the third day just as he said.  When we believe that Jesus is who He said, ask for forgiveness of our sins, and put our trust in him we are given the gift of eternal life of our soul.  It is all about the sacrifice for the save!!

I picture the goal as the pits of hell, Jesus is in front of it on the cross bleeding and breathing His last. Saying “it is finished”. If we cling to Jesus and the cross we will not fall into that pit.  The only way to win in this life is to prevent going into that goal. Cling to Jesus and direct others to him!

Thank you for the sacrifice to save us Jesus!!!

2 Corinthians 5:21 “God made him who had no sin to be sin for us, so that in him we might become the righteousness of God.”

Larry the Scaredy Cat Part Two

022

This is an actual picture of our Larry.  It took about three months for him to over come his fears and learn that we love him and don’t want to hurt him.  We still need to stretch out our hand and allow him to come to us.  Once he comes to us he flips and flops wallering in all the love and attention.  He has the loudest purr that echoes through our garage.  Larry started coming around right around the time Mike’s dad passed away.  Mike wanted a garage buddy, a guy, to hang out with during times the estrogen of our house becomes overwhelming to him.  It is so sweet how God’s timing is “purrrrrfect” and provides just what we need.   Now when my husband comes into the house from hanging out in the garage he is covered in fur.  Larry can’t get enough of loving and cuddling now.

Our Larry story still reminds me of God’s love.   God’s hand is continuously outstretched to us, but we must take the step of faith and come to him.   We must lay down our fears, our pride, all of our selfish ambitions, and just come.  Once we have taken that step and allow God’s love to infiltrate our life we react a lot like Larry.  Once you have experienced God’s love we can just flip, flop and waller in the love and peace that He gives.  There is no greater love than our creator God sending His son to die for our sins allowing us to fully experience God’s love and have the gift of eternal life.  Forever we can flip, flop, waller and purr in the arms of God’s love when we just come to that beautiful outstretched hand.

1 Peter 5:6-7 “Humble yourselves, therefore,  under God’s mighty hand, that he may lift you up in due time.  Cast all your anxiety on him because he cares for you.”

Middle Age

The time in life that your body is so confused that your skin breaks out in zits like a teenager, sprouts wiry spring-like gray hairs, random hairs burst forth from places that never grew hair, and you start saying things like “What was I getting ready to do?” “What did I come in here for?” “I was going to say something, but…oh well I guess it wasn’t important.”

That is all I got tonight!!!  🙂  Oh and I just asked my husband “Is something burning because it sounds like something is burning?”  Yes I confused the sense of smell with the sense of sound.   Sounds like I just need to go on to bed!!!

No Fear or Just Desensitized?

003
It is rare that I have time to sit and watch television. Sitting and watching a scary movie is yet even more scarce. (Ha Ha scary/scarce) Last night I didn’t feel super great so I wasn’t cleaning, writing, or reading. I found myself alone for a short time. My husband had been watching a zombie movie that I had half way paid attention to. When that movie finished he left to go pick up our daughters and the next movie that came on the television was Silence of the Lambs. Scary movies use to give me terrible nightmares twenty plus years ago so I simply tried to avoid them after learning my lesson the hard way. There are always silly spoofs and references to this movie so I let curiosity get the best of me and decided to watch. It was creepy and the end of the movie did have my heart rate up I must admit. As I went to bed I anticipated that it could be a sleepless night. To my surprise I woke up this morning well rested.

All day I have wondered what the change in me has been in regards to spooky cinema or in general the scary things that can happen in life. It seems there are always terrible evil stories reported by news media so my first thought was that I have been desensitized. To be desensitized I would think means that I no longer care and that is far from true. There are so many situations, evils, and injustices going on in our world right now that are a tremendous burden on my heart and remain in my prayers. So if I am not desensitized what is it then?

As the day continued “fear not” in the biblical context kept coming to mind. Now I cannot say that I am never fearful or get startled. It would be a lie to say I am never anxious. What I kept thinking is that in this life there is trouble, but I know who is ultimately in control. John 16:33 “”I have told you these things, so that in me you may have peace. In this world you will have trouble. But take heart! I have overcome the world.” There is evil that surrounds us and it seems more so every day. The bible repeatedly quotes God and Jesus stating “Do not be afraid”. There is a continuous promise that He is there and always will be. He has proven Himself faithful time and time again throughout my life. Maybe I am at the point now that I know I am on the winning side no matter what. Sure I have so much more to learn about complete trust and faith. Apparently I am further along now than I was twenty years ago. Who knows what the next twenty years will bring, but what I do know is that God is with me.  I am not going to make it a habit of watching dark movies.  It may be another twenty years before I watch another one.  Garbage in garbage out so I try not to put too much in.

One reference from the movie that I found interesting was the line about coveting. The reference to one of the ten commandments was spot on. Evil actions start with evil thoughts. So even Hollywood really can’t avoid the fact that we sin. That the coveting thoughts we have can turn into dreadful actions if not kept in check. What Hollywood most often avoids is that the remedy for sin and evil is Jesus.

So never fear friends I am going to stop typing now and leave you with scripture that I hope assures you of where hope, peace, rest, and fearlessness comes from!!

2 Timothy 1:7 “For God gave us a spirit not of fear but of power and love and self-control.”

Deuteronomy 31:6 “Be strong and courageous. Do not fear or be in dread of them, for it is the Lord your God who goes with you. He will not leave you or forsake you.”

Psalms 34:4 “I sought the Lord, and he answered me and delivered me from all my fears.”
